What is the different between reader 11 and DC? Recently we had a hardware refresh which involve reinstalling these application. We go with Reader DC since it is the most up to date as of writing this thread, but later when we upgrade Reader DC to Acrobat 11 the application acting weird. The function still works just the cosmetic is gone. We suspect that the Reader is the cause as installing Acrobat 11 may override some setting Any idea?

Here’s what I found that will allow you to change the file association icon. Each method uses either a program or direct registry edit to change the icon. Acrobat 11 is the previous generation Adobe product in the Reader line. DC is the newer version. Aesthetically DC has some new looks and functions to it. It also has been fixing some issues some of my users have been having with PDF pages appearing to be a little larger than icon sized when they print.

Aside from that, I’m guessing based on your description that the new version is not associating the icon to the pdf file extension. A visual of your issue might be helpful. Think of DC Document Cloud as v It’s just the newest version.

This is what it is now. You might as well get used to it, or look into a competing product. I really haven’t had any issues with it but I can’t speak for the professional edition and editing, only the reader side. I see what you mean. My Google-Fu turned up this Microsoft article on how to re-associate the icon to the pdf extension. It does make sense a bit when looking in a downgrade perspective that an error is bound to happen when going from DC to So here’s the update: I tried all 3 links.

Did not fix the problem. It does make it looks better but the change did not affect every aspects. Such as the icon still missing when attach the file onto Outlook email compose. So I nuked the machine and install clean Windows and applications. For safe measure I also create a DayOne backup for reverting back without having to go through all the installation again. Later I found out that downgrading may not be the cause. For now I stop using custom nor GPO publish. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
