I know that Win 8. I updated the drivers to the latest I found 4. Right now, the Fingerprint reader drivers are installed correctly and it’s detected by the system, but in Control Panel, the “Biometrics” category is not there. What is the make and model of the computer? As Windows 8. So, download the drivers for Windows 8 and install it in compatibility mode and check. Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:. Right click on the driver installation file and select Properties then tap or click on the Compatibility tab.

Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mod e box. Tap or click the drop down box and select a previous Operating System , then tap or click OK. Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows. Let us know about the status of the issue.

We would be happy to help you further. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. The fingerprint reader is working fine in device manager, so makes me think it’s not a driver issue. Windows update will try and update the driver and if you do it will break it again. Go into your user accounts and the fingerprint option should show up.

I’m beginning to have a feeling that the problem in my case lies most with HP Simple Pass but, what do I know. I’ve tried a bunch of different drivers and HP Simple Pass versions, and the only one that enables my fingerprint reader sensor light goes on, able to register prints, but only able to sign into local accounts, not into Microsoft accounts or web browsers is this one: HP SimplePass by Digital Persona btw, this one looks nothing like the other HP Simple Pass’s I’ve tried.

It has a different look. It’s the one that originally came with my laptop. The thing is, no matter what drivers I use, Windows 8, nor Internet Explorer 11 will acknowledge that I have a fingerprint reader it’s not in the control panel, there’s no fingerprint option in the sign in options; and although the fingerprint icon with the plus sign comes up in Internet Explorer, it does not react to fingerprint swipes and I cannot add log ons.

I read somewhere that this version: fingerprint sensor software suite 4. I think I’ve had a breakthrough. Since we’re both struggling to find answers on Microsoft and HP forums, I wanted to link this to you.

A month ago, this blog was my only hope, but the first two links were dead. I had no idea that he had replied to one of my messages and reposted the second link which has the driver I need. He said he would contact Validity to get the first link working again But, that was a month ago. If that link has the driver that you need too I hope , download it and follow the directions starting from 3.

After doing this, the fingerprint reader option showed up in the sign in options, without my having to restart I followed exactly, but had to do the manual update, as is explained, and once it finished, I immediately checked sign in options in pc settings and the option appeared.

Crazy how an older version brought up an option that the newer ones didn’t. I don’t get it, but I’m not complaining. I’ll let you know if it worked for me, but with the appearance of the fingerprint option now, I’m feeling very confident Hope it won’t be shattered.

Btw, if it works for you, keep that download forever before it disappears again. Hope it works for the rest of you. Props to Stanley Soman from stanley. Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode: a. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to A. User’s post on October 17, Already tried this, didn’t work. In reply to FredericHoule’s post on October 18, I’ve got the same issue.

But Windows 8. Looking for some direction. After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro, the fingerprint reader no longer functioned.

Now that I upgraded to Windows 8. Couldn’t get this issue resolved with the preview version of Windows 8. In reply to Melissa01’s post on October 21, This is for my HP laptop with the Validity fingerprint sensor.

Hope this helps someone else. In reply to boilerupman’s post on October 21, This file doesn’t contain drivers, only the FMA I think. I tried installing the drivers the DDK file , but there’s no driver for my sensor in these zip files. Btw, did you get it to work for both the windows log in and in Internet Explorer?

I installed the original Validity driver and HP Simple Pass that came with my laptop using compatibility and the sensor is responding restarted my laptop a couple of times and it hasn’t disabled like other times Sigh, don’t know why, but I’ll take it. Anyway, The thing is, I can only log in using the fingerprint reader with a local account, not the Microsoft account, but the fingerprint reader isn’t working in either of the IE browsers in each account type.

When I use it in the IE browser, a bigger fingerprint icon with the green checkmark or whatever appears over the smaller one with the plus sign to add log ins. In other words, it thinks I’m trying to access the fingerprint manager, but won’t respond in the IE browser at all. I even tried to add the site from within the manager, both adding it manually and having it scan the webpage, but it would always say that it’s not a log in page, no matter which website I used.

In reply to Melissa01’s post on October 23, EDIT: It worked! I’m good. Here’s how I got my Validity FP sensor working under 8. I dunno if I rebooted again or not, but running SimplePass lets me register my dna and its all working. This site in other languages x.
